So yesterday I played a little game with you.
I asked Claude to write most of an email for me, and then I sent it out - moon facts, Luna 10, and all that.
Many of you instantly knew something was off.
But how?
Here's what gave it away:
Claude wrote like it was delivering a Wikipedia entry. Perfectly constructed sentences. Methodically arranged facts. "Luna 10 discovered that the moon wasn't a perfect sphere but had 'mascons'..."
I DON'T write like that.
My emails are conversations. Incomplete sentences. My own (usually tongue-in-cheek) asides interjected into anecdotes and facts.
Claude's version was all polish and precision. My writing has rough edges.
The AI also missed my rhythm completely. My sentences bounce. They flow. Then stop abruptly. I use one-liners for emphasis.
Like this.
I EMPHASIZE when I'm passionate. My cadence gets longer when I have something to say that just won't have the same impact if divided into a few sentences.
Claude gave everything equal weight.
And the metaphors? Claude chose such bad, melodramatic cliches it almost made me laugh. "Like children gazing at a far-off treasure."
Come on, Claude. I expect better, even from you.
My examples are specific. Even weird.
I talk about British sailors and scurvy and straightforward communication. About the Vanderbeekers and their grouchy landlord and understanding customer motivations. About Jewish rap artists and Chanukkah and reaching new audiences.
Claude's "brain" doesn't work like that.
It follows patterns.
I break those patterns.
All those differences between my voice and Claude's perfectly acceptable imitation? That's EXACTLY what happens when brands don't develop their own distinctive voice.
Without intention, your brand defaults to "generic", perfectly fine - even very good! - writing that could have come from literally anyone selling anything.
And that, my friend, is the death of a brand.
The ordinary never sticks in memory. It's the distinctive edges, the unexpected quirks that make something - or someone - unforgettable.
That's what my Tell Your Story package does for your brand. We don't just polish your words - we identify your brand's x-factor and build a narrative around it that draws the right people to you like moths to a strange, wonderful flame.
Because when everyone else sounds like an AI trying to sound human, the truly distinctive voice wins every time.
Plus - once we've developed your brand voice, you can actually USE it to guide AI tools effectively!
When you have a fully developed brand voice guide - with clearly defined tone, style patterns, and unique quirks - you can feed those guidelines to AI and get content that actually sounds like YOUR brand.
It's a gamechanger. You get to make content creation easier AND maintain that memorable, authentic voice that connects with your audience. The best of both worlds.
No more choosing between efficiency and effectiveness. You can have both.
I have space for ONE Tell Your Story client starting in May. You'll be the first client that gets all the new skills and knowledge I'm gaining in Justin Blackman's Brand Voice Visionary. And the only one that gets it at the current rate.
So if you want to make sure you never sound like a robot... if you want customers to easily recognize and love your voice... if you want to create distinctive marketing WHILE using AI....
I'll be on spring break until after Pesach (Passover). Don't miss me too much :).
See you in three weeks,
Chavy
