More than 7 million small businesses use TikTok. For many, it's become the primary place they advertise.
And as today's newsletter from The Future of SEO reminded me today - TikTok will very likely soon be banned in the US.
Yes, anyone who has downloaded the app will continue to be able to use it. But it will be removed from the major app stores and TikTok will be unable to push updates. And that will lead to its decline very fast.
One of the primary arguments against the ban, which TikTok Used in courts, was how negatively that could effect small businesses that built themselves up on ikTok.
And that is my primary argument as to why all businesses, no matter where they start off, should aggressively pursue email marketing as soon as possible.
If you only sell on Instagram, or WhatsApp, or in a physical location - you should be building up an email list. Same if you primarily advertise on social media platforms.
Sure, in a doomsday scenario all email platforms could suddenly shut down and you'd lose everything there too. But barring extreme occurrences- email is pretty much the safest platform.
You own your list. You don't rely on algorithms - every single email goes to every subscribers inbox. And if you're creative about it, you can make your emails just as fun and captivating as any social media feed.
So do it now. When you close this email, open up a document and start jotting down a plan to start - or increase - your email marketing plan.
Want to leave it to someone else? That's what I'm here for 😉
