Here's what the seller wanted to know: "My Shopify store has a cart abandonment rate of 68%, and my recovery emails have a click-through rate of only 10%. I currently send a 3-email sequence, starting 1 hour after abandonment.
Could you review my email strategy and suggest ways to increase recovery rates? Should I adjust the timing, subject lines, or incentives offered?"
This is a common approach many brands take. They see an issue and quickly run to find a TACTIC to solve the problem.
Maybe trying new tactics will help them. But it will be very limited. Because I would venture to guess that the real problem here is an unenthusiastic audience and/or lack of trust.
Think about it. When do you get cold feet and abandon cart? Sometimes it's a budget issue. But often, it's because you're not too excited about the product, or you're visiting a new site and you're not so sure if it's trustworthy.
This is why running to get as much traffic as possible is not the right approach, especially for smaller or new brands. Do that, and you end up with the kind of issue the above Shopify seller had.
What should you do instead?
Find. Your. Fans.
Figure out who are the people who will be excited about what you sell, and focus on creating a community around your brand. Because people who are excited about you won't abandon that cart so fast. And if they do, they'll be back before long.
One great way to start creating a community around your brand is to offer an opt-in "gift" that's NOT a discount or free product. What should you offer instead?
A resource that helps solve a specific issue that you know your target audience faces.
Let's say you sell affordable funky jewelry, and you know that your best customers all have difficulty keeping their large jewelry collection organized. You could offer a PDF with ideas for jewelry storage and organization. Or let's say you sell healthy snacks and you know a lot of your repeat buyers have a specific health condition, say, diabetes. You could offer a free resource related to managing that health condition.
Because once you help them solve a problem in their life, that builds a connection with them on a deeper, emotional level. And THAT connection is what will help reduce abandonment rates.
Not sure what to offer as an opt-in gift that will draw the right people to your brand? That's what Welcome Magnet helps you do. I don't just write an opt-in page for you; I help you figure out who you want to attract to that page and what you should offer them.
If you're ready to reduce your cart abandonment rates, let's talk.
