In the 1970s, people were panicking. A “population bomb” was about to cause mass starvation and chaos! The end of civilization was coming!
In the words of “expert” Paul Ehrlich, “The battle to feed all of humanity is over. In 1970s and 1980s hundreds and millions of people will starve to death… At this late date nothing can prevent a substantial increase in world death rate.”
Today, other "experts" push the doomsday scenario of artificial super intelligence that will eventually cause the destruction of humanity. In the words of Ilya Sutskever, super intelligent AI could lead to "the disempowerment of humanity or even human extinction."
Listen - I’m not an AI expert. I don't know enough to argue on the details of this supposed threat.
But I do know that there’s a loooong history of experts making dire predictions about the end of humanity, and none of them have yet come to pass.
You know what else I know? People who spend lots of time worrying about possible doomsday scenarios won't succeed in life. (Unless, of course, they’re finding a way to profit off those predictions.)
That’s why I won’t do the whole “my predictions for 2025" thing. Pretending that you can foresee the future is what leads you down the rabbit hole until you’re panicking about AI going rogue and turning against us.
There is one prediction, though, that I feel very safe making for 2025:
Those who take small steps every day to achieve a certain goal are very likely to go far. It’s something I’ve done many times in my life - most recently, rebooting my career by sending one thoughtful email to my list every day for 39 days.
