The sprint is over

The number forty has great significance in Judaism. It represents transition or change, renewal and new beginnings.

• Moshe (Moses) was on Mt. Sinai for forty days before coming down with the stone tablets. Why? The Jews arrived at Mt. Sinai as a nation of Egyptian slaves, but after 40 days they were transformed into a nation of servants of G-d.

• According to the Talmud, at age 40 a person transitions from one level of wisdom to the next. He reaches the level of binah - the deeper kind of insight and understanding.

• There are 40 days between the first day of the Hebrew month of Elul, when we begin to blow the Shofar until Yom Kippur, the end of the annual teshuva (repentance) period. These 40 days mark the most important time of personal growth and renewal in the Jewish calendar.

There are countless other examples.

Why am I telling you this? Because today is the fortieth day in a row that I have sent an email to my list. Every day. No matter what else was going on in my life.

Does it have the spiritual significance of 40 days at Mt. Sinai or the 40 days leading up to Yom Kippur? No.

But it has definitely been a time of transition, renewal and new beginnings for me. It has rebooted my career, brought me countless opportunities, rekindled old relationships and started some new ones.
